We have finished Part One of our journey to the Immaculate Heart and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We began with “33 Days to Morning Glory” retreat, and learned about the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Several of us entrusted ourselves to Mary through “Consecration to the Immaculate Heart.”

Next, Mary leads us to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in Part Two of Divine Mercy, in the book “Consoling the Heart of Jesus,” and the accompanying Retreat Companion book.

What is this retreat about?

We will learn how to console the Sacred Heart of Jesus, by learning about the most essential principals of the “Spiritual Exercises” of St. Ignatius of Loyola, and the “Little Way” of spiritual development of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, for little souls like us to grow in holiness.

Saints you’ll meet in this retreat:

  • St. Thérèse of Lisieux, creator of the “Little Way”
  • St. Maria Faustina, Apostle of Divine Mercy
  • St. Ignatius of Loyola, developer of the “Spiritual Exercises”
  • Also St. Augustine, St. Blaise Paschal, and others throughout the reading

Retreat Format

Reading: We will read the book, Consoling the Heart of Jesus: A Do-It-Yourself Retreat Based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Each participant will read the assigned section of the book before coming to group meetings. The weekly readings are very doable, an average of 15 pages/week. You can tailor your reading time to your schedule.

Answering: Each week features a series of questions that help you reflect on the weekly reading, found in the Retreat Companion book. These questions also help you delve more deeply into the reading, by helping you see how the reading affects your life.

Meeting: Each weekly meeting will last 1-1/2 hours, and includes four parts:

  • 5-minute group Opening prayer and lesson overview.
  • 35-minute DVD viewing a talk that illustrates simple and livable key points of each week
  • 45-minute Small-group Sharing that draws from daily Retreat Companion questions
  • 5-minute group Closing Prayer
