This is a unique journey for men and women who are already on the road in the spiritual life, or may be wondering, “Where has my struggle led me?”…. and want to understand more clearly and encounter the tender “first” and everlasting love of our heavenly Father.

A Journey of Reflection

This is a journey of reflection: on where you are now, and what the eternal Father is offering us. Both the painting and the story bring to light the fullness of meaning of the parable of Jesus, and evokes in your heart a profound revelation of who God the Father truly is. It helps you understand what that love is calling you to become in this life. As you learn about the struggles recounted by Fr. Nouwen, you’ll see that this is a a very human road to encountering the divine love and mercy of God. You won’t be disappointed when you make this journey!

What we will explore...

We explore four elements in the retreat:

  • The parable of Jesus on the return of the prodigal sons — and daughters — to the Father’s house
  • The masterpiece painting by Rembrandt van Rijn, powerfully depicting the parable
  • The author’s journey to spiritual healing and growth as he learned from meditating on the painting and the parable
  • Your discovery, with these elements, on what it means to have a mature spiritual life, and how to become ‘perfect’ like the Father, in love. — Matt. 5:48
